Fred Monk- Founder/Managing Director
Fred Monk helped create the Columbia World Affairs Council in 1994, which has helped the Midlands of South Carolina develop an international awareness and international relationships in South Carolina. He currently serves as chairman emeritus on the board of directors. He was involved in forging South Carolina’s sister-state relationships with Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany; and Queensland, Australia; and Columbia’s sister cities in Kaiserslautern, Germany; Cluj-Napoca, Romania; Plovdiv, Bulgaria and Yibin, China. Fred also serves as president of
ECI/Find New Markets, a fee-based not for profit partnership that helps primarily small to medium-sized companies grow in international and domestic markets. Fred can be contacted at fmonk@findnewmarkets.com

Heather Geurkink- Director of Programs and Development
Heather Geurkink came to the Columbia World Affairs Council as an intern in the Fall of 2011. She now works full time as the Director of Programs and Development, managing the programs hosted by the Columbia World Affairs Council as well as developing partnerships within the Columbia community for future programming. She serves on many advisory boards throughout the community including the Comaxiam IT Solutions, an Indian based software company, Advisory Board; Junior Acievement League's Young Professionals Committee and is an active member of Columbia Opportunity Resource. CWAC is a member of the national World Affairs Councils of America network with
40 State Member councils, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, over 350,000 participants, and many affiliated organizations.
CWAC is also a member of the South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations (SCANPO), a statewide network of nonprofit organizations.
